Insurer talks: health insurance as a credit card

Interview with Claus-Helge Groß, Business Development Manager of PassportCard Germany about health insurance coverage by credit card.

Who are the PassportCard products particularly interesting for?

Basically, our products are interesting for everyone who goes abroad – from several months to long-term emigration, whether for professional or private reasons. All have similar requirements: simple processes, health insurance cover without restrictions and long-term, stable partners and premiums – with our real-time billing via PassportCard, we are right in line with the trend.

A very important factor is trust. Who reads the General Terms and Conditions of Insurance these days? We are transparent, with no hidden restrictions – people appreciate that.

After all, no one wants any surprises abroad. Our clients expect service that is always available, high-quality benefits and modern billing processes. Since we also offer flexible solutions for groups of employees of employers, we serve all these target groups. It is certainly also exciting that we offer contracts for individuals in the USA.
What is the special feature of PassportCard?

Clearly, it’s our well thought-out service processes, because we expect good products. First and foremost, there is our PassportCard, our insurance card, because it is a debit card from Mastercard. Instead of paying the doctor in advance, we are revolutionizing the reimbursement process. The card is used to pay directly at the doctor’s office and there is no longer any need for a paper invoice with us. The whole process then takes two minutes and not two to six weeks. Use the app or call, recharge, pay – done. If there are any questions or an emergency, our service team is always and at any time available 24/7. We have understood that we leave it up to the customer how to contact us, because he can choose between letter post, phone, email, Whatsapp, Skype or Facebook Messenger. In addition, customers increasingly want remote consultation via telemedicine. We offer this service with a worldwide network and clearly also in German. Customers can thus receive advice from anywhere in the world and even have prescriptions made out without having to leave their own four walls. Payment at the pharmacy is then again made with the PassportCard.
Are the products also suitable for expats in non-European countries?

In any case, we can take out insurance policies where it is possible for us to do so in accordance with regulations. Our legal setup also ensures that insurance can be taken out if the person to be insured is already abroad. The clou, we can conclude the insurance contract completely by telephone and therefore always under German law. This is particularly fantastic, as it also enables us to conclude policies from countries outside the EU in a legally compliant manner. This is also a customer-oriented process to ensure the stability of our protection in a legally sound manner.
